Spybot Search and Destroy is curently the only recomended shareware program . We recommed you provide a donation to the author (Donate Button top right of Author's page), however, it is not mandatory. OctaPC, however, is not liable for any problems that may occur from any products we sell or promote. From various sources we feel it is a product that is written by a geniune author of anti spyware and anti-adware. OctaPC does not gain monies from this product or the author or any other affiliates of the products. This is a community advertsiement |

Important Terminology
False Positives: This is a method by which suspect anti-spyware programs state you have spyware/adware on your PC when there is none. They then "demand" monies for them to remove these non-existant spyware/adware programs. Typical example is stating if notepad opens or the CDROM drive opens then you have spyware, when infact they have executed the commands for notepad and the CDROM drive to open.
Browser Hijacking: This is a method by which your browser home page is changed without your consent and often very difficult to change back.
Drive-by-downloads: A drive-by download is a program that is automatically downloaded to your computer, often without your consent or even your knowledge. Unlike a pop-up download, which asks for assent (albeit in a calculated manner likely to lead to a "yes"), a drive-by download is carried out invisibly to the user: It can be initiated by simply visiting a Web site or viewing an HTML e-mail message. Frequently, a drive-by download is installed along with another application. | |
The following Forum link clearly shows the abuse by software programmers in making you think their Anti-Spyware is legitimate, when in fact it is often an anti-spyware program against their competitors but not their own sponsors.
